If you feel that your use of either prescription medication or non prescription drug has increased to a level where it is causing you or other family members concern it may be beneficial to attend counselling to discuss and explore.

It can feel a solitary place to be when facing an addiction, you may not wish to share this with family or friend, you may have shared it with them before and be hiding that you are struggling to become or remain substance free. Many feelings may arise from this, these can include:

• Denial - I don't have a problem - everybody is just getting at me
• Shame - you may realise you have a problem but don't know where to turn
• Despair
• Ambivalence about asking for or receiving help
• Fear
• Anxiety
• Irritability

Counselling will allow you to explore your use of prescription or non prescription drugs, talk through how you are feeling in a safe and non judgemental environment which will allow you to be honest about how this is affecting your life and work together to move towards a substance free life. Substance misuse can also lead to financial, legal or employment issues. Relationships may suffer with the loss of friends , family or children.
